Standard Desktop License

A Standard Desktop License permits installation of fonts on a computer and using them in desktop applications like Photoshop, InDesign, or MS Word. The license is perpetual and paid with a one-off payment. It is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage.

  • You can create graphical designs and products for yourself, or your client. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like wooden letters or sticker set).
  • This license is limited by “users,” usually the total number of people using the font.
  • Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (print files or reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever.

Embedding licenses for websites, apps, ebooks, and more are available from Paavola Type Studio.

Extended Desktop License

Licensee may not use the Font to create alphabet or letterform products for resale where the product consists of individual letterforms where the likeness of the Font can be reproduced and the end-user of said products can create their own typesetting. An extended license may be available for an additional fee.

Webfont License

A Webfont License permits the use of fonts on a website. This means integrating font files into the website’s CSS code and hosting the files on the same server as the website itself. All of Paavola Type Studio licenses are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. There’s no requirement to install any kind of pageview tracking scripts, as we trust you.

Files provided with all Paavola Type Studio webfonts are

  • .woff
  • .woff2

App License

App License is needed for embedding fonts in mobile applications, for example when developing an app for iOS, Android, or Windows Phone and need to embed the font file in your mobile application’s code.

ePub License

ePub License is needed for embedding in e-text products, such as an eBook, eMagazine, eNewspaper, or interactive PDF.

An ePub license is based on the number of publications in which the font is used. Each issue counts as a separate publication. Regional or format variations don’t count as separate publications.

Local Server License

Local Server License is needed for applications that produce a deliverable with fonts embedded.
A server license is required for sites, web apps, or services that allow a non-licensed user to utilize the font to create a product (for example, personalized t-shirts, PDF receipts, business cards, and pictures with captions, et cetera).

This license is valid for one year and is renewed each year that the font remains in use.

The price is based upon the number of servers on which the font is installed. Development servers do not count toward the limit. A font downloaded with this license cannot be used in SaaS, where the service is the product rather that the item that is created.
